Mr. Randy Charles Wright, Controller, Planning and Accommodation Support Services, Peel District School Board
Chinguacousy Secondary School - 2012
This new two-storey addition located at 1370 Williams Parkway Boulevard, Brampton accommodates a 1,500 student population. Our team assisted the Peel District School Board with a Feasibility Study of Renovations/Retrofit of this composite 1960’s and 1970's Secondary School project. The intent was to achieve the designated Science Health Tech Program standards.
Once the Feasibility established the presence of Siporex Roof Panels, Hazardous Substances and lack of exiting, the deliverables were restructured due to budgetary reasons to include 12 Classrooms and an 8 Science Room addition along with respective support spaces.
Stafford Haensli Architects Team deliverables also included a feasibility analysis of various M&E approaches from Penthouse Multi-zone to Ground Source Heat Pump Systems.
Stafford Haensli Architects Inc. Team was able to design the required additional teaching spaces in a layout that minimized the "snow piling" on the existing Siporex roof, therefore avoiding the cost of restructuring these areas. We were able to negotiate with the local Building Department to accept a "Time Exit Study" in lieu of providing additional stairs in order to compensate for the extended distances between the exit stairs in the original design.
Stafford Haensli Architects Team was also able to reason the concept of "lowering hazard levels" with the local Building Department, resulting in feasible/economical solutions for all deficient conditions.
