Lester B. Pearson Catholic Elementary School – Replacement School
Stafford Haensli Architects was approached by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board to undertake a detailed feasibility study to expand the existing building with new classrooms in order to eliminate all portables and to renovate and or replace the existing HVAC and power systems in order to achieve present school standards as far as fresh air and environmental controls. Our detailed review of the project concluded that the replacement of the school on the same site with a new building and playfields was the most feasible approach.
Located at 140 Howden Boulevard in Brampton this new construction elementary school replaced the original Lester B. Pearson Elementary School (1973).
The new project was designed from the bottom-up as a sustainable design focused on minimum operational energies and maximum comfort for the building occupants. The school layout is developed around a loop shape corridor system facilitating easier movement of the school population while creating an interior environment that allows for convenient supervision of students.
