St. Paul Catholic Secondary School – Major Addition
The St. Paul project is an original partial two storey Senior Elementary school located in Mississauga, which was retrofitted and added onto for it to function as a full high school.
Similarly as George Webster Public School the limited site frontage, substantial program addition and restructuring has created an opportunity for series of high character design solutions, combined with selective demolition, and phasing of additions, to eventually achieve the stakeholders objectives.
The project involved an intensive renovation and retrofit of the original pre-Bill 30 Catholic Secondary School with an original area of 49,342 sq.ft and construction of a 58,099 sq.ft new two storey addition.
The main architectural objective of the renovation was to provide the students of this Secondary School with new programmatic spaces, as well as re-join the existing school with the severed Technical Pavilion on the North side. The design objective was to create a new “heart” of the school with a partial two storey Main Lobby and oval Chapel thus creating focus and a main entrance to this new composition.
The functional objective included a full upgrade of finishes and Electrical and Mechanical systems to make the project equal to new secondary schools.
The project scope included: Re-insulation/re-cladding of the exterior (incl. roof) - also offered the opportunity to revitalize the exterior appearance, Full replacement of Mechanical and Electrical Systems
Main Design features include:
Cafeteria, Stage, Science Labs, Auto Shop, Construction Technology Lab and 12 regular classrooms
